The Dutch national newspaper, De Telegraaf, named Zwolle’s, former Japan’s U-23 national team, defender Van Wermeskerken as one of the 11 best players of the week in the Eredivisie (Dutch First Division). He was the only player from Zwolle to be selected as one of the best eleven in the 14th round of the competition, while multiple players from Ajax and PSV selected.
He was the only one from Zwolle to be named in the best eleven of the 14th week of the season, starting at right back and playing the full match against Fortuna Sittard in the 14th round of the Eredivisie on March 23. He helped Zwolle to a 3-1 victory in a hard-fought match. Van Wermeskerken was named Man of the Match, and he also received a high score of “7” from De Telegraaf.
